Any way to recoup oxy absorbers?

I have a couple bags of absorbers from several years ago.

Is there anyway to check status, or even better bring em back to life?

I was thinking of sticking them in the microwave on low for a few....

Anyone have any success in any method?

Put them on a baking pan and pop them in an oven at a low temp 115f comes to mind for about 12 hours, and it will suck all the moisture out of them.

Be sure to use them immediately when they are done (<30 min) or they will soak all the ambient moisture around and be useless again. Until you bake them again...

FWIW, O2 absorbers are iron filings and their O2 absorption is matter of of the iron rusting. Microwaving is a good way to start a fire. I have no idea how to "un-rust" iron... especially through a tyvek bag. They are not that damned expensive to begin with.

It's desiccant that you recharge, not oxygen absorbers. Throw them away and get new ones.

As others have said, do not microwave (or even stick them in your oven). When I contacted Multisorb Technologies about the shelf life of their FreshPax type D O2 absorbers (meant for dried foods), they told me:

Multisorb certifies the type D FreshPax product with a use by date that was on the original packaging. It is one year from date of manufacture of the product.

IF the absorbers have been in an unopened package, there's a chance they're still decent. Take a mason jar & new lid & ring. Stick a couple oxygen absorbers in the jar & screw down the lid. Reseal your original Oxy absorber bag (or stick the remainder in some other mason jars). If they're still good, the mason jar lid will "ping" & seal within an hour or so.

If this test shows that they are "good", I'd still use 2-3 times the normal amount, given that they are marginal at best.

If you pile some up on your kitchen table (2-3 layers thick), you should be able to feel them get warm as they react with atmospheric oxygen. Sort of like the disposable hand warmers.

Saul,
Thanks you for helping me out of a brain faht....it's the desiccant bags that I have....not absorbers.

So back to what I was originally asking. How can I recharge them?

As reviver wrote, just bake them. Had some for deccant plugs for an engine that was stored. Blue color was without moisture, pink with moisture. After baking they should change to blue again.
